Q: What must I do to obtain a Work Permit?
A: contact the Labour Department Work Permit Unit, where you will be advised appropriately.

 
Q: How long does it take before I can obtain a Work Permit?
A: This process should take no more than two (2) weeks dependent on the accuracy of information/documentation presented to the Work Permit Unit. This time period may be lengthened if an investigation into the work permit application is required.

 

Q: Do I still require a Work Permit after CSME?
A: Yes. Foreign nationals outside of CARICOM and non-skilled nationals of CARICOM member states still require a Work Permit after C.S.M.E.
However, C.S.M.E. makes provisions for the free movement of skills/ labour of a CARICOM National to seek work or engage in gainful employment in all CARICOM member states as either a wage-earner or non-wage earner, without the need to obtain a Work Permit in the member states in which he/she desires to work.
CARICOM Nationals who qualify are:-

  • Graduates from all recognized universities in the world
  • Artists
  • Musicians
  • Sportspersons
  • Media Workers
  • Managers, Technical and Supervisory staff attached to a company or self-employed persons.

These qualified CARICOM Nationals must first obtain a Certificate of Recognition of CARICOM Skills Qualifications from his/her home or host Country.

 
Q: How much does it cost for a Work Permit?
A: Foreign nationals and Commonwealth National (outside of CARICOM); for every period of 12 months is $7,500.00 and for CARICOM nationals, for every period of 12 months is $2,000.00
Rates for periods under 12 months are distributed proportionally according to length of time.
 
Q: What is the length of time given on a Work Permit?
A: The length of time given on a Work Permit usually range from (1) month to one (1) year.
